An unplanned pregnancy may bring about many natural emotions such as fear, anxiety, and stress. Sometimes, women make a decision to have an abortion before even really thinking about if that is the best choice for them and their baby. But you may be surprised that many women experience instant regret after taking the abortion pill, aka “Plan C,” medical abortion, or chemical abortion.
At LivingWell Medical Clinic, we have known women who changed their minds and felt heartbroken from the decision to abort, which they made out of stress.
If you are reading this and have taken the first pill, and you have changed your mind about having an abortion, it may not be too late to save your baby!
Can I Change My Mind After Taking the Abortion Pill?
According to the American Pregnancy Association: “Yes, you can reverse the abortion pill. The abortion pill reversal (APR) procedure can only occur after the first dose of medical abortion is taken orally and is ineffective after the second set of pills.
The abortion pill reversal process involves a large influx of progesterone into the pregnant woman’s system. This is due to the fact that the first pill blocks progesterone from being absorbed by the womb. The drug blocks where progesterone would normally be absorbed, so an influx of progesterone can outcompete for the available binding spaces.”
Timing is Everything in Reversal
Time is CRUCIAL if you are considering an abortion pill reversal (APR). A woman wishing to reverse the effects of mifepristone must start the APR within 24 hours of taking the pill for the best results. However, the Abortion Pill Rescue Network states that “there have been successful reversals when treatment was starting within 72 hours of taking the first abortion pill.”
If you are in this timeframe, the good news is that medical professionals have been able to reverse the effects of the first abortion pill and save 64-68% of pregnancies by using the natural hormone progesterone.
LivingWell Medical Clinic is an abortion pill reversal provider and you can call us right away, any time of the day on our direct APR line at: 530.278.8234. If you are not in our area, you can call the national APR number at 1.877.558.0333.
How is the Abortion Pill Reversed?
An abortion pill reversal must take place in a medical clinic, as soon as possible. First, an ultrasound is done to confirm the baby’s heart rate, placement, and how far along the pregnancy is. Your doctor or medical professional will then prescribe progesterone, which may either be taken orally or vaginally.
It is also possible that they may give you the progesterone by intramuscular injection. “The treatment will usually continue through the first trimester of pregnancy,” states the Abortion Pill Rescue Network.
